Today there is an increasing amount of street art and urban art, partly due to the popularity of mural artists who work to beautify old buildings and walls, and partly from a percent-for-art program some cities have adopted. This program works with local artists to integrate art pieces, often sculpture, into a variety of public settings and newly developed buildings. It’s fun to pick a city, and walk the town, discovering the public art in parks, libraries, on city walls, on street corners, and other public venues. This is a fun way to combine a love of walking, travel to new places, and art — and expose yourself to more beauty!
These photographs were taken on several art walks in Walnut Creek, California–a city that supports the one-percent-for-art program as well as urban mural artists.
