“I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees.”
~ Henry David Thoreau
Walking in nature and walking in the woods or in a forest — strengthens our immune system, reduces blood pressure, increases energy, boosts our mood and helps us regain and maintain our focus in ways that treeless environments just don’t. Walking in nature is known to build our immune system, reduce stress, reduce depression, lower blood pressure, reduce loneliness, help us to lose weight, and can even prevent cancer — and it’s fun and beauty awakens our soul.
Being one with nature was an important aspect of living well for Henry David Thoreau, who was known for advocating simple living in nature written about in his famous book on the subject, Walden. Walking in the woods or in nature, is not only good for us physically but has big benefits for clearing our mind, making us feel better, refreshing our spirit, and keeping us healthier all around. Plus, best benefit of all, is nature is absolutely beautiful!
Between every two pines, there is a doorway to a new world.
~ John Muir
